Physicians were in the news in 2013 for breakthrough discoveries, medical advocacy for the poor, and saving the lives of terror and bombing victims abroad and at home.  The physicians were from a variety of specialties, including orthopedics, primary care, oncology, pediatric hepatology, and otolaryngology.  MedScape, a web resource for physicians and other health professional, drew the “best” from the many, many doctors whose achievements represented the highest standards of their calling.  Among the winners was Community Volunteers in Medicine’s own Dr. Mary Wirshup, Vice President of Medical Affairs.

“Dr. Mary”, as she’s affectionately called by her patients, was recognized by MedScape for her work as Vice President of Medical Affairs at the nonprofit clinic Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) in West Chester who cited her receipt of the AMA Foundation 2013 Pride in the Profession Award as proof of her extraordinary work.  Dr. Wirshup is credited with building a large network of volunteer physicians for the clinic and creating a fully staffed diabetes clinic for chronic disease management.  She calls working at CVIM her “dream job”.  We are so grateful that Dr. Wirshup has chosen to share her many talents with the uninsured in Chester County through CVIM.

Medscape is a web resource that offers specialists, primary care physicians, and other health professionals the Web’s most robust and integrated medical information and educational tools.
