On December 6th, one of the year’s most greatly anticipated events took place at Community Volunteers in Medicine in the form of the annual Give Kids a Smile dental outreach day.  Working in collaboration with the local Dental Society who sponsored the day’s activities, CVIM was able to provide 36 children from Downingtown, Kennett, and Octorara School Districts with exams, fillings, cleanings, extractions, fluoride varnish applications, pulpotomies, root canals, and sealants.

Although this annual event continually is able to provide vital dental care to children who might otherwise go without, this year’s Give Kids a Smile outreach day was a particularly great success.  The local Dental Society and AAA Mid-Atlantic volunteers joined CVIM volunteers to provide over $14,000 worth of preventative and restorative care to children in need throughout Chester County.  Pennsylvania State Senator Andy Dinniman even stopped by to visit with patients and personally thank the volunteers and sponsors who made this needed work possible.

CVIM will hold another dental outreach day in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists’ Association on Saturday, February 8, 2014.  This event, called Sealant Saturday, aims to provide any child 6 to 16 years of age with sealants and dental exams free of cost.  To learn more about CVIM’s dental outreach, contact Alberta Landis at alandis@cvim.org.
